Bane NOR is moving forward in implementing its national ERTMS Programme. In the spring of 2020, the technology was deployed on the Roa – Hønefoss line to provide a “live” test environment. To this end, the ERTMS Test Lab and ERTMS Training centre has been opened. Norway’s first railway line equipped with ERTMS Level 2 Baseline 3 will open in October 2022. Bane NOR will comply with the EULYNX specification for its standardized signalling system interfaces. In the autumn of 2020, Bane NOR has as the first Infrastructure Manager completed the first successful implementation of the EULYNX SCI-CC (TMS-RBC/IL) interface, between two different suppliers Siemens (RBC/IL) and Thales (TMS).

Successful collaboration between EULYNX and industry
Last year, the EULYNX consortium and UNIFE CCS Platform agreed to cooperate in the review of interface specifications for interlocking technology.
Three representatives of the railway suppliers are regularly invited to take part in the review of specifications and make suggestions from the products development point of view.
The cooperation represents a way to enable both parties - suppliers and railways - to improve the specifications. On the one hand, the need for queries and changes after the publication of the specifications decreases significantly; on the other hand, EULYNX can benefit from suggestions for improvement from the suppliers. The cooperation takes place within the so-called Change Control Board (CCB) and on-request advices from the industry to the EULYNX Architecture Cluster. Based on the production of extensive review comments, the return of experience proves to be positive and marks a first step towards a wider collaboration with the industry, which will be the user of the specifications in the development of EULYNX enabled products. The review process is complex and regularly produces extensive review comments.
For the future EULYNX specifications, the suppliers can bring in their point of view earlier in the process and actively contribute to the improvement and feasibility of the specifications. This is the way to ensure a continuous and collaborative development of EULYNX specifications.
Baseline Set 3 Release 6 published
The EULYNX Consortium has published an updated documentation release Baseline Set 3 Release 6. The EULYNX Baseline Set 3 Release 6 is an update within Baseline Set 3 after the earlier Releases 1-5. It delivers 2 updated documents related to SCI-RBC, integrating the functionality of ETCS L1 into SCI-RBC.
This marks the completion of Baseline set 3, making this release a stable and comprehensive set of specifications, serving as basis for industry developments and infrastructure manager deployments. Future developments in EULYNX will be introduced as part of Baseline set 4 (planned from December 2021 onward).
All deliverables are in PDF format, deliverables originating from DOORS are also available in requirements interchange format ReqIF.

Network Rail - Target 190plus webinar
On October 1st, Network Rail hosted a webinar on the Target 190plus R&D programme, the objective of which is to reduce the cost of ETCS signalling infrastructure to £190k per signalling equivalent unit. The programme is aligned with the Reference CCS Architecture (RCA), an initiative driven by several railways organized in EUG and EULYNX.
The event opened with some context setting from Andrew Simmons on the Technology, Toufic Machnouk on the East Coast Programme and David Clarke of Rail Industry Association (RIA) on the interface with the Sector Deal. Martin Jones the Network Rail Chief CCS Engineer then set out the asset sustainability challenges that Network Rail faces and the fact that solving these with conventional signalling is not feasible, before Programme Manager Karl Butler-Garnham and Engineering Expert Nicola Furness set out the details of the R&D programme. The webinar ended with a lively Q&A session. The slides from the webinar are available pdf here (3.41 MB) . In addition, the questions asked during the T190 webinar have been captured in an FAQ available pdf here (574 KB) .
