Welcome
EULYNX is an European initiative by 14 Infrastructure Managers to standardise interfaces and elements of the signalling systems. The project was started in 2014 and has evolved in 2017 into a standing organisation for standardisation of interfaces. EULYNX regularly published specification documents as Baseline Sets. EULYNX welcomes any initiative from other entities in the sector to improve its standards, and is recently integrated in the development work of the ERJU System pillar.

Aiming for defining and standardising interfaces in the future digital control command communication, signalling and automation system, the goal is a significant reduction of the lifecycle cost for signalling systems. The control and automation system forms the core of digital railroading. Digitisation brings major advantages to the railway system like continuous monitoring for condition based maintenance. On the contrary, there are a number of challenges with a widely distributed safety system that have been taken up by the EULYNX and will result in a further harmonisation of approval processes in EU.
EULYNX fosters our vision for a digital railway
Whilst IT-based control logic has a significantly shorter life-time than "heavy metal" solutions for robust field elements like point drives and level crossings, the control electronics will be subject of more frequent replacements than long-lasting investments in railway assets in the field. EULYNX enables disconnecting the life-cycles of interlockings/ control logic from those of field elements. Therefore EULYNX provides first time in history on EU scale a modular and obsolescence-immune control and automation system. Thus it offers market access also for specialised manufacturers that may not supply the full range of CCS assets but single components like level crossings, control centers, axle counters and point machines.
The EULYNX architecture establishes long-term stable interfaces and at the same time fosters intensive innovation on module level. It constitutes a true step-change in the era or railroading as a base for digitisation of the railway with best protection of invest and promoting innovation at the same time.
